Published: 2024 • By Coronado Tree Farm

Proper planting and early care are critical to the long-term health and beauty of your new tree. Follow these steps for the best results.

Before Planting

  1. Choose a location with appropriate sun exposure and space for the mature tree
  2. Call 811 to mark underground utilities before digging
  3. Water the tree thoroughly in its container before planting

Planting Steps

  1. Dig a hole 2-3 times wider than the root ball but no deeper
  2. Remove the container and gently loosen circling roots
  3. Place the tree so the root flare is at or slightly above ground level
  4. Backfill with native soil, watering as you fill to eliminate air pockets
  5. Apply 2-4 inches of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk
